Banana Smoothie Recipes

Bananas make lovely healthy smoothie recipes. I like to use bananas that are really ripe, with dark speckles on their skins, to make sweet creamy fruit smoothies.

If you like your smoothies cold then you can use frozen banana chunks to sweeten and chill them. To freeze bananas first peel, then slice them, and store in a container in your freezer. Frozen banana chunks are good in smoothies, and make a gorgeous dairy-free ice-cream. Unless you have a seriously heavy duty blender it's a good idea to let frozen banana slices defrost for a few minutes before blending.

Orange and Banana Smoothie Recipe

Bananas and orange juice blend together to make amazingly lovely creamy fruit smoothies. Recipes don't come much easier than this.

Fruit Smoothie Ingredients     Serves One

  • two oranges
  • one large banana, fresh or frozen.

How to Make an Orange and Banana Smoothie

  1. Juice the oranges, and add the juice into your blender.
  2. Peel and slice the banana, or use frozen banana slices.
  3. Blend well and enjoy.

Tip: If this is too sweet try adding a stick of celery!

Chocolate Banana Smoothie Recipe

Fruit Smoothie Ingredients     Serves One

  • 2 oranges
  • 1 large ripe banana
  • 4 soaked dates
  • 1 heaped teaspoon of organic chocolate powder
  • 1-2 teaspoons of shelled hemp seed (optional)

How to Make a Chocolate Banana Smoothie

  1. Juice the oranges and add the orange juice into your blender.
  2. Next add the peeled and sliced banana.
  3. Now add the soaked dates and the chocolate powder.
  4. Add hemp seed if using.
  5. Blend well and enjoy.
This chocolate smoothie recipe is a lovely treat. Hemp seeds are rich in healthy fats, and an excellent source of easily digestible protein.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie Recipe

Fruit Smoothie Ingredients     Serves 1-2

How to Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Method 1 - Using Almond Milk
  1. First add the almond milk into the blender.
  2. Next add the peeled sliced banana and the strawberries.
  3. Blend and taste test for sweetness.
  4. Add 1-4 soaked dates if desired, and blend again.
  5. Serve and enjoy.
Method 2 - Using Soaked Almonds or Almond Butter
  1. First add the peeled sliced banana and strawberries to the blender.
  2. Next add either 10 soaked almonds, or one large teaspoon of almond butter.
  3. Add a cup of water.
  4. Blend well, and taste test for sweetness.
  5. Add 1-4 soaked dates if desired, and blend again.
  6. Serve and enjoy.
Try replacing the strawberries with raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries for a selection of lovely berry smoothies.

Green Smoothie Recipe

Fruit Smoothie Ingredients     Serves 1-2

  • two oranges
  • two large bananas, fresh or frozen
  • one large handful of baby spinach

How to Make a Green Banana Smoothie

  1. Add the orange juice into the blender.
  2. Next add the sliced banana.
  3. Finally the spinach. Add more spinach if you like it, or try a bit less if it's too strong.
  4. Blend well until nice and smooth.

Tip: If the spinach doesn't blend easily then you can use a stick of celery to push it down into the blades while the blender is running. (Some of the celery will end up in the smoothie- just make sure you keep your hand well clear!)

For a sweeter smoothie I sometimes like to add soaked dates, or a teaspoon or raw honey. You could also use agave nectar or stevia which have the advantage of not raising blood sugar.
