This easy tomato juice recipe is even tastier with a splash of Tabasco sauce, or a small pinch of cayenne pepper.
Ingredients
When making the above recipe I passed the tomato pulp through my Samson juicer a couple of times to extract all the tasty juice.
Tomatoes are nearly 95% water, and can be blended to make raw Gazpacho soup.
Tomatoes are actually fruits, but being low in sugar they are usually eaten like vegetables. Ripe red tomatoes are rich in beta-carotene and the anti-oxidant lycopene.
Some of the health benefits of tomatoes:
Tip: For maximum health benefits choose tomatoes that are the deepest red. The deeper the red, the greater the amounts of lycopene and beta-carotene (carotenoids). Plus organic tomatoes may contain 3 times more lycopene so buy or grow organic if you can!
Carotenoids are fat-soluble - so eat tomatoes with avocadoes, nuts, seeds, or olive oil to maximize their health benefits.
Caution: If you suffer from rheumatoid arthritus then tomatoes may make it worse.
If you'd like more raw tomato nutrition facts go to the USDA National Nutrient Database and enter "raw red tomatoes" into the search box.
Creating your own fresh juice is fun, and I recommend you begin by following a recipe. This way the juice is more likely to taste delicious, and you'll want to keep on juicing:)
